NAB probe against Arsalan challenged

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been moved to restrain the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from launching a probe into the Arsalan Iftikhar-Malik Riaz affair.
Ammanullah Bhatti, a resident of Sialkot, submitted a petition through his counsel Fahad Ahmad Siddiqi to the court, saying that the NAB had decided to form a committee to probe the Arsalan case.
The petitioner said the NAB had no jurisdiction to form an investigative committee over the issue as the two (Malik Riaz and Dr Arsalan Iftikhar) did not hold any public office.
He maintained that the bureau’s decision to launch probe showed the mala fide intentions of the rulers because the bureau had earlier refused to entertain the case, saying that it did not fall in its purview.
He appealed to the court to issue directives to set aside the constitution of the committee by the NAB and direct the government to adopt the set legal procedure over the issue.
