Youth deprived of sports activities

Youth deprived of sports activities

Kandhkot  - Local youth are being deprived of sports as no major sports event has been organised either by the district administration, or schools or colleges for the last several years.

Resultantly, they have to organise sports events on their own such as cricket and hockey games.

During the times of nazims, the district government had built a mini stadium in the heart of Kashmore city but due to carelessness of the government the condition of the stadium is going from bad to worse.

Local youth, playing different games, told this scribe on the condition of anonymity that due to negligence of the district government and concerned departments sports were on decline in the entire district.

They said that despite bringing it to the notice of the district administration several times, the latter had not given attention to the pathetic state of sports, and had never provided them any funds or facility.

They added that they had organised a cricket tournament one year ago, to which they had invited the provincial minister for sports. Even in that case, the district government did not facilitate them and they had to organise the event on their own.

When this scribe talked to the deputy commissioner (DC), he said all these complaints were baseless, as only recently the district administration had held an event, featuring various games.

To a question regarding the missing sports facilities or lack of funds for the promotions of sports, the DC told that the administration had always facilitated the players.

It is worth mentioning here that due to non-provision of facilities and proper funds, games such as hockey, badminton, basketball and traditional games, especially volleyball and Kubadi, are now things of the past. Cricket is the only exception whose popularity still remains intact.
