Unmanned signals invite accidents during outages

ISLAMABAD - The power loadshedding has not only disrupted the routine lives of the residents but also the traffic signals of the capital city.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) personnel usually control traffic during outages hours at various signals but no personnel are observed at linked and inter-city signals.
The motorists cross these signals one after another without an array, which causes serious threats of accident.
When contacted the SSP Traffic, Dr Moeen Masood told this agency that traffic personnel have been deployed on all busy signals, irrespective of loadshedding schedule.
He said that the Capital has more than 3,000 signals, however the ITP didn’t have sufficient personnel to deploy on each signal.
“Islamabad alone is not facing power outages, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) should install UPS system at all signals of the capital,” he added.
Meanwhile, a CDA official told this scribe that the project to install UPS at signals is under way and it would be completed soon. He further denied having any detail that how many signals would get UPS system.
