PML-N’s win in Multan a verdict against dharna politics: CM

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that last year’s sit-ins politics have caused a huge loss to the country and created hurdles in development projects.
He was talking to assembly members who met him on Friday. He said that 18 crore people of Pakistan would not forgive those who hindered the journey of the nation towards progress and prosperity.
The chief minister said that people had expressed their disassociation with sit-ins politics through power of their vote in bye-election of Multan. Service to the people is mission of the government and new records of public service will be set within next three years, he held. He stressed upon parliamentarians to work round the clock for the resolution of public problems.
Also, Shahbaz Sharif has said that PML-N government has started Pakistan’s biggest Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme for the progress and prosperity of rural areas. He said that an amount of Rs 15 billion will be spent on this programme during current fiscal year while a sum of Rs 150 billion will be utilised during next three years for the construction and rehabilitation of all rural roads of the province.
He was addressing a conference of engineers of Communication & Works Department regarding Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme. He said that roads constructed under this project will be 12 feet wide and carpeted while their shoulders will also be constructed. He said the Programme will improve rural economy and living standard of the common man while job opportunities will also be created resulting in prosperity of the people of rural areas.
He said that Communication & Works Department as well as other departments will have to work on this programme with commitment and patriotic spirit for ensuring transparency, speed and standard. He said that those showing best performance regarding implementation of the programme will be encouraged and awarded commendatory certificates besides cash prizes.
He said that bonus will be given to labourers of contractors working on the programme. He said that those showing poor performance or compromising on the standard of work will be held accountable. The Chief Minister said that he is ready to make a new social agreement with C & W Department, however, the department will have to work day and night for serving the people. He said that Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Program will prove to be a milestone in the progress of the country especially uplift of rural economy.
Shahbaz Sharif said that resources of the nation were looted ruthlessly during the previous era of dictatorship and loot and plunder made in the name of development projects has no example in the history of the country. He said that a permanent authority will also be set up for looking after the existing and the new roads constructed under the Programme.
He said that our future generations will have to face the consequences of the loss caused by sit-ins last year. He said that sit-ins caused huge loss to the poor and common man and created hindrance in a number of mega development projects. He said that we have to make up the delay caused due to sit-ins through hard work and determination.
