Shehzad squeezes into ITF Seniors final
LAHORE - Shehzad Khan entered the men’s singles 35 plus final after beating his respective opponent in the 32nd Maple Leaf ITF Seniors World Ranking Tennis Championship 2017 here at the PLTA tennis courts on Wednesday. In the men’s singles 35 plus semifinals, Shehzad thrashed Syed Hadi 6-0, 6-1 while Asher Ali beat Humayun Rana 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to book berths in the final. In the men’s doubles 35 plus first round, Shehzad Khan/Irfanullah beat Talha Waheed/Mehboob Waheed 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. In the men’s singles 40 plus semifinals, Talha Waheed beat Mehboob Waheed 6-3, 6-1 while Shakeel beat Fayyad 7-5, 6-2. Rashid Malik and Jehanzeb Khan won the men’s singles 45 plus semifinals, Waqar Nisar and Gull Hamid won the singles 60 plus semifinals and Asad Niaz won the singles 65 plus semifinals.–Staff Reporter
IOC solidarity baseball coaches course
LAHORE – The IOC Olympic solidarity baseball coaches course commenced here on Wednesday at Aashiq Hussain baseball stadium Bahira Town. Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFBB) Executive Director Syed Fakhar Ali Shah said the five-day useful activity is being supervised by American WBSC coach George Santiago. “Participants from all the affiliated units of the PFBB are learning finer points of modern day coaching from the foreign coach,” he said. Bahria Town Lahore Administration Brig (r) Khalil Ullah Butt was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the course, which has been allocated by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) for the further development of the game in the country. Four teams crash out of CPL T20
LAHORE - Raaziq International, Nestle Industry, Allied Bank and Abacus have registered victories in the Pepsi Cola CPL Twenty20 Championship 2017 here at the various grounds of the city. While four teams Zephyr, Zameen.com, Intech and Atlus Copco were crashed out of the event. In the first match of the day, Allied Bank outclassed Intech by 8 wickets. Batting first, Intech were all out for 106 runs while Allied Bank replied strongly and achieved the target for the loss of 2 wickets, with Rizwan Aslam emerging as man of the match. The second match saw Abacus routing Zameen.com by 40 runs. Abacus scored 176 runs while Zameen.com could score 136. Nabeel Sikander won player of the match award. Nestle Industry thrashed Atlus Copco by 85 runs. Thanks to Ateeq-ur-Rehman (65) and M Umar (38), Nestle posted 163 on the board but Atlus couldn’t reply well and were bowled out for paltry 78. Mubashir Hussain (5-14) was named man of the match. In the last match of the day, Raaziq International defeated Zephyr by 33 runs. Helped by captain Mishal Rehman (59), Raaziq set 147-run target for Zephyr, who could score 112 runs. Raaziq captain Mishal was declared player of the match. CPL chairman Ahsan Zaki bade farewell to the outgoing teams by awarding them with shields and souvenirs while he hoped that the remaining teams would give out their best to make the event remarkable.–Staff Reporter
Allama Iqbal Inter-Club Hockey starts
LAHORE - A four-day Allama Iqbal Inter-club Hockey Tournament started at the Unique Hockey Club ground Chennab Block Allama Iqbal Town here on Wednesday. Eight hockey clubs are taking part in the tourney. Olympians Wasim Ahmed, Khawaja Junaid, Khalid Bashir, Col (r) Mohsin and Mian Rehan Saleem inaugurated the tournament, which will be played on league-system and top two teams will play the final on November 25. On the opening day, two matches were played. In the first match, Rana Zaheer Hockey Academy beat Youngster Hockey Club by 3-1 while the second match between Unique Hockey Club and Amritsar Hockey Club ended in a 3-3 draw. Two matches will be played today (Thursday) between Noble HC and Amritsar HC and Rana Zaheer Academy and Pak Hero Hockey Club.–Staff Reporter
