US President George W. Bush on Wednesday telephoned Japan's new Prime Minister Taro Aso to congratulate him on his election, according to White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe. "The president called Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso this morning to congratulate him on his election as prime minister and to reaffirm the strength of the US-Japan alliance," said Johndroe. "The president said he looks forward to seeing the prime minister in Lima at the APEC Summit," he said.
