LAHORE - The city received showers yesterday, making weather pleasant by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level.

After a hot and humid day, strong winds started blowing in the afternoon that followed by steady rains, providing relief to the heat stricken people.

Maximum and minimum temperature was recorded 34 degree Celsius and 27C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 100 percent.

People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy pleasant weather after steady rains. Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including families.

The rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as the rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides. Inundated rainwater and slippery conditions caused frequent traffic jams.

Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of Lahore.

According to experts, seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan and adjoining areas. Monsoon low lies over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Rajasthan (India). Due to this low pressure, monsoon currents are penetrating eastern parts of the country.

Meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rains for Lahore during the next couple of days.

Rain-thunderstorm is expected at scattered places in Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Bahawalpur divisions and at isolated places in Zhob, Sibbi, Kalat, Nasirabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir. Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
