LAHORE - A police team staged a fake encounter after Friday midnight in Johar Town area and gunned down two alleged robbers, a police officer disclosed on Saturday. The deceased were history-sheeters and were jailed several times in past.
Sources revealed that alleged bandits identified as Aziz and Rizwan were already in police custody for the last several days. The policemen took them to Johar Town area and killed them in midnight encounter . Saddr Division SP (Operations) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, however, declined the accusations and said that the bandits were involved in more than 35 crimes. He said that Aziz and Rizwan were gunned down near Aashiq Chowk whereas their three accomplices managed to flee from the scene. According to his account, the dacoits snatched a car from Sabzazaar police area and robbed a couple in Township Police area around 1:30am. When they reached Aashiq Chowk they were signaled by the police to stop but the dacoits opened fire on the police personnel, who retaliated in the same manner, he stated.
He said that around five bullets were shot by police which led them to death. To a query, he said that the police van was also partially damaged. The incident took place around 1:45 am on Saturday. Later, the bodies were shifted to the City morgue.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the families of both deceased had dispelled them due to their involvement in crime. According to modus operandi, the dacoits used to snatch motorcars, motorcycles and robbed homes in Johar Town, Faisal Town, Sattokatla, Nawab Town, Sabzazaar, Township and Green Town in past. The SP further said that the deceased were also involved in crimes in Sheikhupura. No family member of the deceased contacted police till filing of this report. Further investigations are underway.
