Two minors crushed to death separately

KARACHI - Two minors were killed in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Friday, police and witnesses said. In one of the tragedies, a four-year-old girl crushed to death by a reckless bus driver when she was on her way to school on the city’s main artery MA Jinnah Road.

Following the incident enraged people, gathered at the spot, turned violent while set two passenger buses on fire and also blocked the city’s busy road for traffic.

Incident occurred when ill-fated Sakina, 4, a pre-primary school student along with her father, Huzaifa, 30, was on her way to a school from her residence located in Ranchore Lane area of Saddar. The girl was crushed to death by a speeding bus when she was riding with her father on a motorcycle to school. Her father also critically wounded in the mishap and shifted to hospital.

Witnesses said that the accident took place because two buses were racing on the MA Jinnah Road and hit a motorcycle. The father of the girl fell into the footpath but his daughter was sitting on the motorcycle fuel tank crushed to death under the wheels of the bus.

A large number of people gathered on the spot and immediately taken the victims to the Civil Hospital, Karachi but the girl had been died on the spot. The driver and conductor of the bus managed to flee while mob turned violent and set fire both buses. The mob also attacked the fire brigade vehicles that rushed to the area to douse the fire. The mob also blocked the road while pelting the passing vehicles with stones.

Extra contingent of the law enforcers were called at the site to disperse the crowd. Police reached the site and took action against the crowd creating law and order situation.

The police also caught nearly eleven people from the spot for setting the buses on fire and the disturbing law and order situation. The score of people also staged a protest against the buses’ drivers as well as the police and held them responsible for the accidents.

Witnesses said that the police mobile seen near the crime scene at the time of accident but police personnel instead of taking action timely against the driver moved from the spot.

Police officials in the evening claimed to have arrested the driver and the owner of the bus. “We have arrested both driver Saleem and the owner Azam of the bus during separate raids,” Saddar division SP Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem said. The accident took place because of reckless driving as the two public transport buses were racing against each other. When they reached near Tibbet Centre, the 4-K route bus tried to overtake another bus on the wrong side of the road, hitting the motorbike.

He said that the police have also obtained the CCTV footage and the rioters were being identifying through the CCTV footage before booking them into the FIR for torching the buses.

IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja also took the notice of the incident and asked the deputy inspector general (DIG) south and the DIG Traffic to submit detailed inquiry reports on the matter, and summoned them separately. In another tragedy, a ten-year-old Mehsan, son of Saffal Shah also lost his life when a speedy oil tanker hit him nearby his home. The accident took place at Machar Colony on Mauripur Road. The victim was shifted to CHK but he had been died. Deceased was the resident of Bismillah Chowk in Macchar Colony. Police officials said that the accident took place when the victim was trying to cross the road and a speedy oil tanker hit and killed him, adding that the tanker driver had been managed to escape.
