LAHORE - Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore on Monday announced the result of Secondary School Certificate (9th Class) Annual Examination 2008. A total of 1,93,686 candidates applied for the examination and 189,392 appeared. Of this total only 73,034 were declared successful. The pass percentage remained 38.56, says the gazette preamble. In the Science Group, a total of 92,832 candidates had appeared in the examination. Of these 50,463 passed, showing 54.36 pass percentage, while 96,560 candidates appeared in the General Group and only 22,571 were declared successful with 23.38 pass percentage. Gender-wise analysis of the result showed that in Science Group, 57,635 regular boys and 35,148 girls students appeared in the examination out of whom 26,741 (46.40 percent) and 23,710 (67.46 percent) passed respectively. In the same group, 33 private boys and 16 girls candidates appeared in the examination out of which seven (21.21 percent) and five (31.25 percent) passed. In General Group, 27,140 regular boys and 34,072 girls students appeared in the examination. Of these only 2,913 (10.73 percent) and 12,132 (35.61 percent) passed. In the same group, 14,237 private boys and 21,111 girls candidates appeared in the examination out of whom 1,750 (12.29 percent) and 5,776 (27.36 percent) passed. The result of a candidate will be determined on the basis of total marks in subject of Classes 9th and 10th examinations. If a candidate obtains less than 33 percent marks in any of the subject/s in the 9th class examination, he/she will be allowed to re-appear in those subject/s along with his/her 10th Class Examination, if he/she desires so, otherwise his/her result will be compiled on the basis of marks obtained by him/her in a subject/s in 9th and 10th classes examinations. The 9th and 10th class examinations will be considered one examination. The candidate will have to appear in all subjects in the examination centre and in case of absence due to illness or other inability from the examination centre, he/she will be considered absent from the exam and no extra chance will be given to him/her. Gender-wise analysis of Secondary School Certificate (9th Class) Annual Exam 2008 shows that girls have outshone boys.  Among regular candidates, girls and boys in science group got 67.46 and 46.40 percent success respectively. Regular girls and boys in general group got 35.61 and 10.73 percent success.
