Pakistan hockey team leaves for home

BEIJING (APP) - Pakistan hockey team after showing a dismal performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games left here for home on Monday evening. At Beijing Capital International airport, senior members of Pakistan Embassy saw off the hockey team and other members of the contingent. Talking to APP at the airport, the coach of the Hockey team Naveed Alam said like his follow countrymen he was very disappointed on the performance of the team, but cited three reasons for poor showing. He said one reason was the last moment changes in the administrative set up of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). The former Olympian said that he picked the team from scratch and did his best to make it a winning combination, but the results here had disappointed him. "We feel very sorry for our poor showing in Olympics and we never thought that we will finish at such a low position," he noted. The national hockey team finished 8th, the worst-ever performance in its Olympic history. The coach of the national team said that he would meet the press in a couple of days to reveal the details that responsible for poor performance of the team.
