Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), PML(Functional) and the National Peoples Party (NPP) Tuesday agreed to enter into election alliance in Sindh to give a tough fight to the Pakistan Peoples Party which had hitherto enjoyed unchallenged popularity in the interior of the Province.
Speaking at a joint press conference with PML-F chief Pir Pagaro and NPP chief Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi , PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said they will make all-out efforts to include other opposition parties including Jamaat-e-Islami in this alliance as well, posing a credible counter to the PPP in its traditional stronghold of Sindh .
Nawaz Sharif along with senior party leaders including Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Syed Ghaus Ali Shah, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto and others met Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Pir Pagara at the Kingri House here on Tuesday.
After the meeting expressed his satisfaction at the broad electoral alliance in Sindh and said they would field joint candidates at all the seats in the province to rid the province from corrupt and inefficient leadership. He said the electoral alliance would lead to one on one contest between the ruling party and alliance candidates.
Nawaz Sharif said the meeting also demanded that Provincial Governors appointed on political basis should be removed to pave the way for independent and judicial elections. He said fearing defeat, the ruling party withdraw the controversial Sindh Local Government Ordinance which is a victory of people of Sindh .
Responding to a question, Nawaz also told media representatives that if the country wanted to see peace, then negotiations with the Tehrik-i-Taliban were necessary.
The PML-N chief announced that his party wants to contest elections in Karachi along with PML-F, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and other parties.
PML (Functional) Chief Pir Pagaro expressed his confidence that the alliance would win elections in Sindh . He said the recent power breakdown was a message of the government and asked the Chief Justice and Chief of Army Staff to take notice of the development and hold an inquiry.
Pir Pagaro lashed out against former ally PPP, criticising its five year rule. He said that the PPP’s policies had destroyed Sindh and now the people of the province reject them as they are angry with the party leadership.
Earlier, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, both members of the PML-N, also met with a PML-F delegation at Kingri House. Both parties agreed to work with “full cooperation”.
