Religious parties blast govt over crackdown on Faizabad sit-in

Call for resolving issue through dialogue

KARACHI - Religious parties, while reacting to the crackdown on the activists and supporters of Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) in Faizabad on Saturday, slammed the government and warned of possible protests across the province if the use of force not halted against the peaceful protestors.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, while expressing solidarity with the participants of the Faizabad sit-in, said that operation against the protestors was not solution to the issue.

He condemned the use of force against the TLYR activists, and added that the government itself allowed the situation to get out of control, as it was more concerned about saving its federal law minister. He stressed that the law minister should either resign or reveal identity of the person, who was involved in the conspiracy to amend the law relating to the finality of the prophethood (SAWW). Terming the use of force to disperse the protestors a foolish act, Naeem opined the operation would only make the situation more complicated. “The government should hold dialogue with participants of the sit-in and resolve the issue peacefully,” he advised.

JI Karachi chief further said that it was the responsibility of the government to expose the elements involved in conspiring against finality of the prophethood (SAWW) and award them exemplary punishment which could act as a deterrent. “Further delay would lead to further unrest,” he apprehended.

MYC strongly condemns

Faizabad crackdown

Similarly, Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) strongly condemned the use of force against the participants of the sit-in in Karachi and Islamabad and urged the federal government to settle the issue through dialogue.

MYC Sindh President Asadullah Bhutto, while commenting on Faizabad crackdown, said that people’s routine lives had came to a halt owing to violent incidents as the protests had expanded throughout the country from Islamabad.

He asked the Supreme Court to take notice of the government’s act of amending the finality of prophethood law.

He said the protest was the right of people against the government’s attempt to tamper with finality of prophethood law. MYC supports and endorses the demands of the protestors that the persons behind amendment in the law should be exposed,” Asadullah concluded.

Condemning the use of force against the protestors of Faizabad, Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jaffri demanded Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal to step down immediately. He said that rulers’ unwise steps had brought the entire country on the verge of anarchy, while these had also sent negative message to the world.

He said that incompetent rulers, instead of holding a dialogue with the protestors, adopted a path which had put the country’s peace at stake. “It is a sensitive issue and no Muslim can tolerate any amendment to finality of prophethood law,” he said and added that the government should take the issue seriously instead of relying on force against the protestors.  He further demanded the government make public the names of those elements, who had hatched conspiracy against the Muslims.
