MIRPURKHAS - The sale of unhealthy gutka, puri and liquor continues in the city and its outskirts unhindered due to silence on the part of concerned departments.
According to details, shopkeepers and people running narcotics dens openly sell these intoxicants under the patronage of political figures and police.
As a result, more and more people, including children, are feeling inclined towards these items, whose business stands prohibited in the light of a decision by a high court.
Gutka and puri are sold at shops, while pan is sold by vendors. Liquor is available at liquor dens situated in the outskirts of the city namel Mori, Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Kot Mirus, Mirwah Gorchani, Bilaro Shah, Sindhri chowk, Phuladyyoon, Hingorno, Digri, Jhuddo, Naokot, Tando Jan Muhammad and others.
The notables and social activists have blamed the police for receiving monthlies in lieu of giving a free hand to the sellers of such items.
They have urged the Sindh government to ensure implementation of the high court’s verdict by taking action against local police officers and also by sending those behind bars who are doing the business with impunity.
