Zafar Ali Khan's 61st death anniversary today

LAHORE - The 61th death anniversary of leading Pakistan Movement leader, journalist and poet Maulana Zafar Ali Khan will be commemorated throughout the country today.

On this occasion, he will be paid tribute for his matchless services.

Maulana Zafar Ali Khan died on November 27, 1956 at the age of 83 in Wazirabad. After death of his father, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan moved to Lahore and took over Zamindar newspaper, which became mouthpiece of Muslims. He wrote revolutionary poetry during his imprisonment. Later in 1945-46, Zafar Ali Khan was elected to the Central Legislative Assembly as a Muslim League nominee. He penned 30 books, including poetry collections Baharistan, Nigaristan and Chamanistan. Some of his well-known works include Marka-e-Mazhab-o-Science, Ghalba-e-Rum, Sayr-e-Zulmet and Jang-e-Roos-o-Japan.

The death anniversary day will dawn with recitation of Holy Quran at his native village Karamabad in Gurjawala district. Special prayers will be offered for the legend, who according to historical records, spent every third day of his life in jail for the sake of Independence Movement. Special programmes will be arranged and editions will be published to pay homage to the departed soul of Maulana.

On the occasion, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Trust will exhibit historical photographs besides selection of poetical calligraphy at Maulana Zafar Ali Khan’s mausoleum.
