Court to hear Al-Azizia reference today

ISLAMABAD - The Accountability Court Islamabad could not take up Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference against former premier Nawaz Sharif as defence counsel as well as prosecution witness could not turn up from Lahore due to road blockades and adjourned the hearing for Tuesday (today).

On Monday, Nawaz Sharif’s counsel could not arrive from Lahore as roads were blocked due to ongoing protest by a religious party. Capt (retd) Safdar appeared before the court and informed that Nawaz Sharif could not be approached, while his counsel could not turn up due to road blockades.

Similarly, prosecution witness Malik Tayyab, who was to come from Lahore, also failed to turn up due to the same reason.

Judge Mohammad Bashir adjourned the hearing in the case for Tuesday when Al-Azizia Steel Mills case would be taken up with Avenfield apartments and Flagship investments cases.

Capt (retd) Safdar in a brief chat with media said that though his case was not fixed for hearing on Monday but he turned up on the advice of his lawyers.
