Importance of population control highlighted

SADIQABAD-A speech competition titled “Negative Effects of Increasing Population” was held at Govt Pilot High School by Population Welfare Department here the other day.
The competition, attended by students in a large number, aimed at creating awareness among the students and teachers regarding harms caused to society by rapid growth of population.
Addressing the ceremony, District Ushr and Zakat Chairman Khawaja Idrees termed “controlling population” a big challenge of the modern age. The rapid growth of population has been devouring resources of the country, he said. “We should cooperate with the government for its efforts to control population,” he added.
District Population Welfare Officer Shahid Ilyas said that the department has been making all-out efforts to create awareness among the masses regarding population control.
Position-holders of the speech competition were awarded trophies and certificates at the end of the ceremony.

CTD nicks five TTP operatives

MULTAN-The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Monday to have arrested five terrorists belonging to defunct Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP) along with explosives and arms from a rural area of Multan.
CTD sources identified the alleged terrorists as Abu Bakar, Abuzar, Noman, Mobeen and Arsalan. Sources said that the terrorists had been shifted to CTD police station and they were being quizzed by CTD teams.
Sources disclosed that the CTD team received a tip-off that some terrorists hide in Binda Sandeela area of Multan and they were planning attacks on sensitive installations. The CTD team rounded up all the alleged terrorists in a successful raid and recovered five hand grenades, one pistol and bullets from their possession.
