LAHORE - In order to bridge the gap between public and police department, all the police officers including CCPO, DIGs, SPs and SHOs have been made available daily for three hours between 4 to 7 pm at their respective offices. This important initiative has been taken for the first time and basic purpose was to make the police officers 'public servant'. Besides this, landline office numbers, cell phones and fax numbers of Superintendents Police (SPs), SSPs and other senior police officers have been made public and people can contact them in any emergency. Earlier, the citizens were facing immense troubles in tracing the police officers to submit their complaints. CCPO Lahore Additional IG Pervez Rathore said this while giving an interview to daily The Nation on Saturday. It was his first interview to any newspaper since he has taken charge as CCPO Lahore. Additional IG Pervez Rathore said that first of all he had firm faith on Allah Almighty who gave him an opportunity to serve the human beings.  He said that a special team of diligent police officers including the DIGs, SSPs, SPs and other police officers was made to provide security to the people and to redress their complaints round the clock. The CCPO said the Punjab government was quite serious and had various projects in pipeline both for masses and police department, adding that handsome budget had been announced to make the police a disciplined and modern force. Efforts for public: Additional IG Pervez Rathore has said major demand of the public is a revolutionary change in the police' attitude in general and free registration of cases in particular. He said that for the first time quick response to the people's complaints was ensured at the police stations. Cases are being registered at the police stations without hindrances. Police officers especially SHOs have been warned strict departmental action for ignoring citizens' complaints. He said the police officers were duty bound to listen to public complaints on daily basis from 4 to 7 pm. Besides this divisional superintendents of police have also been directed to attend their mobile phone calls personally and take action on all applications received through fax. Reward and Punishment System: The CCPO categorically pointed out that reward and punishment will go together and the force would be purged of corrupt and bad reputation personnel. The morale of the police officials will be improved by awarding them on their outstanding performance. He said that purpose to launch this new scheme was to make the police officers obedient to the masses. A clear example is the strict departmental action that has been taken against 122 police officers for their involvement in corrupt and rough attitude. Some DSPs and Inspectors are also amongst those who have been dismissed/suspended or awarded other departmental punishments. On the other hand, the CCPO said, as many as 650 police officials were given reward for showing bravery, remarkable achievement and magnificent performance. Efforts for Police: Additional IG Pervez Rathore said that many projects like construction of new police stations and renovation of old buildings of the PSs will be started soon. A committee headed by a SSP ranked police officer, an SP and some other police officers has been constituted to prepare a comprehensive report in this regard. The committee was directed to visit the police stations of the city and submit its recommendations as soon as possible. Giving details, he said police officials were being provided all basic necessities of life. "New big halls will be constructed in all the PSs and other buildings of the police department where facility of televisions, air-condition, carpeted floor, and new furniture will be made available for the lower ranked policemen." The Punjab government is also seriously considering to increase salaries of the police force equal to the motorway police and a decision to this effect is expected soon, he maintained. Efforts to eliminate crime: Elimination of crime is also top of the agenda, the CCPO said, adding that recently plain clothed policemen were deputed in different parts of a police division on experimental basis for early detection of crime and to keep an vigil on the movement of the suspected people besides enhancing additional mobile squad. He said that police officers found fruitful results of this initiative as the plain-clothed policemen and mobile squad officials managed to trace and detect criminal activities. Through their information and efforts many criminals had been arrested.  Similarly, he said, the plain-clothed policemen had also been deputed inside the jails of the city to get information about the release of the notorious criminals who were later taken into custody before their involvement in the criminal activities. A comprehensive drive has also been launched against hardened felons and proclaimed offenders. Different teams of the police officials are busy in collecting particulars of the POs and those wanted by the police in high profile crime. To a query, he said that best investigation was the backbone of better policing and to improve their functioning the investigation officers will be provided cost of investigations. He said that special attemps were made to counter the menace of kidnapping and car-lifting and coordination between vaious police departments was increased manifold.
