Since they rule us

The best of students in our country choose to pursue careers in technology, medicine and administrative sciences, where competition is the highest. The students who cannot make a good grade in the studies and exams enter the law and fighting forces. The country has suffered politically, economically and socially and has not been able to take off to be counted among the progressive and developing nations due to frequent military rule legitimized by the judiciary. Our sovereignty and existence can be at risk if things do not change. It is suggested that high academic and intellectual criteria should be put in place for inductance into the noble professions of armed forces and law, as is prescribed for higher scientific pursuits. Unless this is done, we will continue turning out mediocre lawyers, judges and officers. -ENGR R. BHUTTA., via e-mail, June 17.
