Khawaja Asif denies fleeing Pakistan over ‘planted’ story

ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has denied opposition’s claims that he has fled the country to avoid governments’ action over a security meeting’s leak.

His tweet came shortly after Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid was sacked to pave way for a transparent probe into a “planted story” about a national security meeting.

“The planted story related to NSC and NAP meetings published in Dawn on October 6 was a breach of national security. Evidence available so far points to a lapse on part of Information Minister, who has been directed to step down from office to enable holding of an independent and detailed inquiry,” a statement by PM office said.

“An including committee including senior officers of ISI, IB and MI is being formed by the Government to Pakistan to clearly apportion blame, identify arrests and motives and expose all those responsible for this episode of stern action in the national interest,” it said.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan and AML head Sheikh Rashid said that Khawaja Asif fled to Dubai to avert action over security meeting’s leak.

“Just arrived in Dubai with family to attend a wedding, will b back inshallah tmrw morning. ..,” he said.
