Police have ‘no’ arrest plan so far

LAHORE - No PTI worker was arrested yesterday as the opposition party staged demonstrations in different parts of the metropolis.

A senior police officer said they had no plan to crack down on political worker in the provincial capital.

“Not a single worker of any political party has been arrested yet. We have not received any orders from the government regarding the crackdown (on the of opposition parties),” the officer said on anonymity.

Dozens of PTI workers staged anti-government protests in different parts of the city yesterday. At some places, they blocked the roads by setting the tyres on fire. The protests triggered traffic mess in the densely populated areas.

Heavy police contingents were also deployed in various parts of the city. The protesters left the sites peacefully. The police in some areas dispersed the protesters after holding negotiations with them.

The party workers staged protest demonstrations in different cities of the Punjab province. Following Thursday’s police crackdown on the activists in federal capital, PTI chief Imran Khan called for countrywide protest campaign.
