Students urged to remove uncertainty

KARACHI - Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaiser said that faculty members of the varsity are responsible for enlightening the academic and research skills of students.

He was addressing at the gold medal distribution ceremony to the position holders of Faculty of Science KU at Dean Faculty of Science Council Room yesterday.

Civilised society always has a large number of youth who has sound leadership skills. Our meritorious students could play a pivotal role in addressing the current uncertainty in our society. Contemporary age is of competition, only those individuals could succeed who are sound and competitive in their fields.

Vice Chancellor advised the students to always safeguard the honour and dignity of their varsity even after entering the practical life. He congratulated the parents of the students as well.

“You are the ambassador of Karachi University,” VC added

Dean Faculty of Science Prof Dr Syed Afrozuddin also congratulated the students and their parents. He added that now they are entering their practical life, their real competition of life begins from this point and you have to uplift the name and prestige of your parents and university. The process of learning never ceases.

Students who received gold medals are Hina Baig from Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, Shumaila Moin from Botany, Zehra Haider from Biochemistry, Faizan Ansar, Dur-e-Shahwar Gul, Nuzhat Parvez, Atika Saud from Chemistry, Fariha Mateen from Genetics and Qurrat ul Ain Hyder from Mathematics.

Fakhrun Nisa from Chemistry got two gold medals for getting first position and highest marks in Analytical Chemistry. Mehwish Shabbir from Chemical Engineering too got two gold medals for getting first position in the department and also overall first position in the entire faculty of Science.

In charge Chemical engineering department KU Dr Shagufta Ishtiaq gave the vote of thanks address.

Scholarships awarded

to KU students

Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser said that Pakistan and South Korea enjoys exemplary friendly bilateral ties.

He was addressing at the Cheque Distribution Ceremony of POSCO Asia Fellowship at VC Secretariat KU.

Notable dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi, Registrar Prof Dr Moazzam Ali Khan, Prof Dr Syed Afrozuddin, Prof Dr Iqbal Azhar, Prof Dr Syed Ansar Rizvi, Dr Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Nadeem Ahmed Khan and Dr Muhammad Sohail.

“Education is one of the major factors of the development and progress of South Korea and this is the prime reason South Korea is contributing a huge amount in the form of scholarships to the students of 25 universities in the 13 countries of Asia to the meritorious students so that they could get better and affordable education,” the VC added.

Students from KU for POSCO Asia Fellowship are selected entirely on merit. We are thankful to POSCO Asia for providing this scholarship to our students in this regard and hope that this practice will continue, he added.

The VC added that in KU these scholarships are awarded to the students who are committed to achieve significance in the field of science and technology and promoting these students is the key towards development.

More than 35,000 students are enrolled at KU and different scholarships are being provided to them still the scholarships are less, our alumni must play a role in arranging more scholarships for the students of the varsity.

Ten students from different departments of the varsity were selected on merit for the POSCO scholarship and $5000 were distributed to them in total while 500 dollars to each student. Rs7,50,000 were distributed to the five students of BSc, BE (Chemical Engineering), Teachers Education and five students of MSc Final under Dr Rafat Hussain, Dr GAJ Hussain, Naveen Hussain scholarships. Rs100,000 were distributed to bachelors students each while Rs50,000 to MSc Final students each.
