LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved in principal the launch of Rural Sanitation and Development Programme .

A sum of Rs 19 billion will be earmarked for this purpose. Sanitation and development projects will be launched at the union council levels and representatives of local government institutions will identify schemes.

The CM approved the project during a meeting held through video link. Speaking on the occasion, he said  programme will bring about positive change and an effective cleanliness system will be set up at village level.

The chief minister directed the formation of the provincial steering committee for the implementation and monitoring under ministers for law, local government and, planning and development and making committee members mayor and chairmen of district councils.

The local government secretary briefed the attendees about on the project.

Rana Sanaullah, Manshaullah Butt, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, MNA Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Senator Saood Majeed, MNA Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmed, Chairmen District Councils of Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Chakwal, chief secretary, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Separately, CM Shehbaz congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Binali Yildrim and Turkish nation on their national day.

In his message, he said people of Turkey and Pakistan are tied in the historic relationship of love, brotherhood and harmony. He said the friendly ties between the two countries are strengthening with every passing day. He said Turkey has always helped Pakistan in the hour of need.

He said government and the people of Turkey have always supported the point of view of Pakistan at every international forum.  He said Turkey has progressed under Erdogan and become a prosperous country due to continuity of democratic system and polices.

Talking to PML-N Sindh Senator Saleem Zia at a meeting in Lahore, the chief minister said his party has set new records of public service while some political opponents have made records of allegations.

He said the people are annoyed with those who took U-turns and there is no room for politics of allegations in Pakistan.

He said the PML-N government has introduced culture of transparency and saved billions of rupees and international institutions also praise transparent policies. He said Pakistan is heading towards the destination which has been dreamt by Allama Iqbal and Quaid-i-Azam.

Senator Saleem Raza, speaking on the occasion, said a lot of development has been done in Punjab under Shehbaz and he has made the province the role model.
