Karachi - Sindh Minister for Information, Labour, Transport and Mass Transit Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said on Saturday that all major development projects had been initiated when Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was in power.
He said the credit for that went to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) and Benazir Bhutto (BB) as well as to the present government.
“As far as Karachi is concerned, many projects have been launched throughout the city,” he added.
He was addressing a seminar titled, ‘Karachi Problems and their Solution’, organised by the Pakistan Media Development Foundation (PMDF). Nasir said that although the federal government had not released the required funds to the Sindh government, but the latter never forgot the welfare and development of people of the province, and even did not stop developing Karachi. “Karachi has always been given a top priority as the PPP believes in equality and public welfare without any discrimination,” he claimed.
The minister further said that the PPP government had not only launched development projects, but had also given priority to the education and health sectors, and various steps had been taken for improvement in these sectors.
He told the audience that work was underway not only on Karachi K-IV Phase–II project, but also on the projects related to provision of clean drinking water, sewage and sewerage system, mass transit system, solid waste management system in order to provide maximum facilities to the people of Karachi. “Karachi is the heart of Sindh and Pakistan so we have always given priority to improving its infrastructure on the directives of Bilwal Bhutto Zardari and keeping in view the vision of Asif Ali Zardari,” Nasir said, and added, “PPP has always followed the policy of reconciliation. We may have made mistakes, but we have taken many positive steps as well, and these must be projected and highlighted by our media properly for the general knowledge of people.”
Expressing satisfaction over the present law and order situation, the minister said the credit for that went to the government and the law enforcing agencies which had played their role in the return of peace.
“This is evident by some major events, which were held during Muharram this year and the arrival of Bohra community leader, for which more than 30 thousands foreign diplomats including Indians, visited the city.
Earlier MPA Nusrat Sahar Abbasi, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Amin Chinoy, Mian Zahid Hussain, Agha Masood Hussain, Mukhtar Aqil, Faisal Aziz, Mazhar Abbas, Aamir Zia, Adil Gillani, Durdan Shahab PMDF President Zaheer Khan and others spoke about the problems of Karachi and also suggested solutions for their resolution.
They also stressed that such seminars should continue to be held in future also.
