QUETTA - At least two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were martyred and four sustained injuries in a landmine explosion on Wednesday when their convoy that was going to Sibi hit a landmine.
As per details, a landmine explosion hit an FC convoy which was heading towards Sangan area in Balochistan district of Sibi to cleanse it of landmines. As a result, two soldiers – Aqib Ahmed and Masood Ahmed – embraced martyrdom on the spot and four of their colleagues received wounds. The injured were immediately shifted to a Sibi hospital. The condition of one of the injured was reported to be serious.
The four injured FC men were identified as Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Ayaz, Ghulam Hussain and Altaf.
A large number of police and Frontier Corps personnel rushed to the area and launched a search operation to arrest the culprits.
Several days back, a suicide bomber targeted FC commandant’s vehicle at Sariab Road in Quetta, killing a woman and a child among five persons. However, the commandant was not in the vehicle. The attack also injured 27 others.
Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives in the landmine blast. He also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of martyred security men.
The chief minister said the entire nation stands by the security forces for foiling the nefarious designs of terrorists.
Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti also condemned the explosion. He said the law enforcers were ensuring safety to public lives and their properties by sacrificing their lives. “The sacrifices offered by the Frontier Corps for maintenance of peace in Balochistan are unforgettable,” the home minister lauded the forces’ role for law and order, adding the law-enforcement agencies personnel were determined to bring terrorists to justice.
