Social sciences underscored to address imbalance in society

4th Int’l conference concludes

MIRPUR (AJK) - The two-day 4th International Social Sciences Conference concluded with strong recommendations on promoting social sciences for the integration and flourishing of the society.

The conference was organised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in collaboration with Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) at the HEC Auditorium. The conference aimed at highlighting significance of social sciences in line with the modern era.

Experts from various parts of the world including Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Malaysia as well as from various reputed universities from across Pakistan attended the conference.

HEC Executive Director Dr Arshad Ali was the chief guest on the occasion while MUST VC Dr Habibur Rehman (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), Dr Amjad Chaudhry of HEC and Dr Neelofer were invited as guests of honour.

Addressing inaugural session of the conference, MUST VC Dr Habibur Rehman highly eulogised sincere efforts made by the HEC for strengthening social sciences in the country. He pointed out that the conference is a step in the same direction, adding that it also provides an opportunity to the students and teachers to work on various development projects and research works in social sciences in collaborations with renowned institutions and experts. The MUST VC invited the participants to establish academic links with the university for bilateral corporation and exchange of knowledge to promote social sciences. Highlighting the importance of social sciences for the integration and uplift of the society in modern age, Dr Rehman underlined that teaching students social sciences is necessary to move the society in a right direction, adding that imbalance in knowledge spheres has made the society unstable and intolerant.

“There is a need for striking balance in all spheres of knowledge for development of the society and promote national unity,” he said, emphasizing that the imbalance in knowledge spheres can only be balanced by social sciences. He also demanded the government more funds to enhance research activities in the MUST regarding social sciences, saying the government’s assistance is necessary for the promotion of every subject.

Dr Habibur Rehman expressed gratitude to the delegates, from brotherly country Malaysia for attending the conference. He suggested for development faculty exchange programs and joint research ventures with the MUST, directed at developing the human resource in business and management sciences. He also showered the experts from Indian Occupied Kashmir with praise for gracing the ceremony with their presence.
