Karachi street crime victim dies after seven years

KARACHI - A man injured in firing during a mugging in Karachi breathed his last in Karachi, after having been confined to bed for seven years, reported Geo TV late Sunday night.

Umair, 22, had been shot by robbers during a mugging attempt in a bus near KDA Chowrangi, Nazimabad, on Sept 14, 2010. The bullet had hit the youth’s in the backbone, forcing him to stay on bed for the next seven years.

His family says the doctors in Karachi declined to treat the youth saying they were unable to cure him.

However, a group of doctors in the United States had agreed to treat Umair and the youth had appealed to well-to-do individuals to help him financially.

Umair’s condition worsened Friday night, after which he was shifted to a hospital, but he succumbed to the fatal wound during treatment.
