An act of grotesque injustice

As the courts of United States have announced 86-year imprisonment verdict for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a series of protests have erupted throughout Pakistan owing to this act of grotesque injustice by the United States. At the same time a large number of people have jumped on this bandwagon for personal gains. Some of the political groups are exploiting this situation to their benefit. The matter must be analyzed more closely. Unless the right information sees the light of the day, we cannot ascertain real facts. On the other hand, there is no physical evidence such as fingerprints or gunpowder traces, to show Dr. Aafia even grabbed the rifle as the prosecutors have accused her of attacking American soldier in Afghanistan. This goes unanswered by US authorities that declare her as among the seven most wanted Al-Qaeda fugitives in 2004. True justice is still desperately needed. BADAR UL ISLAM, Islamabad, September 29.
