ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the public representatives must take lead in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected population of their respective areas, adding that this would not only ensure timely completion of the reconstruction phase but would also raise morale of the people. The Prime Minister was talking to the Deputy Chairman Senate, Jan Muhammad Jamali and Senator Haji Adeel who called on him separately at his Parliament House Chamber here Wednesday afternoon. The PM said that following the principle of consultation, the govt would take all stakeholders into confidence on the reconstruction strategy. He said that Parliamentarians belonging to the affected areas would also be consulted and their suggestions would be incorporated to ensure efficiency and public welfare. He urged the Parliamentarians to come forward and lend a hand to improve the public lot. Talking about the relief activities in the affected areas, the Prime Minister said that with the overwhelming support of the people, philanthropists and various organisations, the government has been able to provide timely and adequate relief goods including food stuff to the affected people. He added that through the effective medical measures, outbreak of epidemics was warded off. The PM also gave details of the international assistance and thanked the international community for recent pledges made at the UN forum. He said that once damage need assessment is made through the WB and Asian Development Bank, the real situation would come to surface. Jan Jamali appreciated the Prime Minister for his personal efforts during the relief activities. He apprised the Prime Minister on the current situation of the flood-hit areas of Balochistan. He extended his full support in the coming phases of reconstruction and rehabilitation. He also appreciated the PM for his initiative to take all the political leadership along for the greater welfare of the flood-affected people. Senator Haji Addel apprised the Prime Minister on the situation of flood-affected areas and the rehabilitation activities in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Province. He also extended his party support in the coming phases.
