LAHORE The Pakistan hockey team left for India to take part in the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday morning. Before departure members of the team along with team management met with President PHF Qasim Zia and Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa at National Hockey Stadium. Qasim Zia said that the PHF was using its full resources for providing best facilities to the players and we are also expecting the best results from the players. He said that we are hopeful that Pakistan team will produce good results in the Commonwealth Games. Zia said that their main target was Asian Games because it was a ranking and Olympic qualifying event. He said the Commonwealth Games were not a ranking or qualifying event. He said that the statement of foreign coach Michel Van Den that Pakistan team will not get the gold medal in Commonwealth Games was based on reality. Ten teams are taking part in the event starting from October 5. Pool A comprises of Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, India and Scotland, while pool B comprises England, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Trinidad & Tobago. Pakistan will play its first match against Scotland on October 5, second match against Malaysia on October 6, third match against Australia on October 9 and fourth match against India on October 10. Classification matches and semi finals will be played on October 12, while final and bronze medal matches will be played on October 14.
