LAHORE Karachi Port Trust hammered two goals as they cruised to 3-0 win over Habib Bank Limited in Pakistan Premier Football League at KPT Benazir Sports Complex Karachi. In another match, PIA cut SSGC down to size with 3-1 win at CDGK stadium, Sheldon road, Saddar Town. After a slow-paced KPT-HBL first session that ended 0-0, the second half turned into exciting battle with attacks from both sides but it was KPT that saw their three players went into the scoring book, with three goals in the final 16 minutes. Striker Jamal Uddin broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when his fierce close-range drive from close range took deflection off keeper Syed Dilawar Hussain. And it was left to Muhammad Wasim and Shahid Saleem - to hit the back of the net in injury time. Wasim enhanced the lead to 2-0 in the 90+1 minutes while Shahids strike was noted down as 90+3 minute goal. HBL had also forced goal-bound attempts but KPTs keeper Sajid Hussain was agile below cross piece. KPT collected 13 points from six matches while HBL , still winless, recorded one in five matches. The airmen opened the clash against SSGC in explosive way when front runner Nazeer Ahmed hammered the ball into the cage twice within 12 minutes. Nazeer steered the ball in the net when clock was showing five minutes and he increased the lead further seven minutes later. Both the goals were sweetly-timed efforts giving no chance to SSGC keeper Zaman Ghani. PIA led 2-0 at interval but SSGC reduced the deficit in the 49th minute through Rustam Khan whose angular drive went through the defences of Pishin-born keeper Syed Sultan Ali. Moments later and Asim Faiz headed Shah Nawazs excellent cross wide of the target for SSGC . PIA added the third in the 88th minute through midfielder Wasim Ullah who faked his way in for a dazzling goal as Ghani wondered where his cover might me. PIA gathered nine points from six outings while SSGC had a disappointing start, pointless after five matches. No one appreciated the way they gave walk-over to two Balochistan clubs - Chamans Afghan FC and Nushkis Baloch FC. Thursday (30 Sep) fixture: PMC Athletico v Young Blood (Agriculture University Ground, Faisalabad 4 pm).
