DG FDE for facilitating poor students

Islamabad - Qaiser Majeed Malik, additional secretary Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) and acting director general Federal Directorate of Education, during a visit to Islamabad Model Postgraduate College, H-8, on Saturday directed to increase the amount of fee concession for the poor students.
Professor Khurshid Ahmed Shakoori, principal of the college, while giving a detailed briefing regarding the academic and administrative affairs of the college said that the college had an enrolment of 2,000 students from intermediate to postgraduate level. This number can be increased to more than 3,000 provided a new academic block and additional posts of teachers are approved by the government.
The DG FDE visited various classrooms and laboratories and spoke to the students and issued directions to increase the amount of fee concession for the poor students through a college committee. He was informed that the college hostel had been dysfunctional since 2008. Students of the college belonging to far-flung areas of the country are facing accommodation issues, he was informed.
He was also told that this oldest and biggest college of the capital city had been suffering from acute shortage of water. The water supply line to college had been damaged/blocked due to construction work of CDA near Zero Point some 12 years ago. Since then the college administration has written 16 reminders/letters to chairman CDA but there was no response. Meanwhile, the college has installed a small water pump to meet the miscellaneous requirements but it is not sufficient.
The DG FDE directed the principal that a comprehensive report on the various issues of the college be submitted to P&D wing of FDE for inspection. Moreover new disciplines at postgraduate level and short courses and diplomas should be introduced in English language to benefit the students. He said that the issues of this college should be resolved on priority basis.
Addressing to the teaching faculty, the DG FDE said the students should be provided top quality education so that they might not move to foreign institutions which involved high cost of education. He said that he would be paying such visits to different educational institutions regularly.
