Islamabad - Work on the Quaid-e-Azam Postgraduate Medical College building in the premises of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) could not be completed even after 25 years of it’s launching.
The cost of the project, which was started in 1986 at a cost of Rs 1 billion, has now touched the staggering Rs 10 billion may further escalate if work did not take off the ground.
According sources at the PIMS, the contractor of the project abandoned work after he was denied funds.
Meanwhile, NESPAK has said in its report that the structure has not been laid on solid foundation, which must be razed before starting work on the project.
The project spanning on a 50-kanal of land was of paramount importance and if completed on time, it would have been a major postgraduate teaching college in the capital.
The sources said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (PIMS) Vice-Chancellor Dr Javed Akram had brought the issue to the notice of capital administration and development division authorities, but no headway could be made. The sources said that even if work on the project kicks off, the basic structure will have to be razed.
