Islamabad - Examination system is considered as the main mechanism for regulating access to the next educational level for students but unfortunately examination system of Quaid-I-Azam University (QAU) is not up to the mark. The students of ICT colleges have been suffering since the colleges got affiliation with QAU in 2012.
An urgent agenda-forming meeting of the representatives of the ICT colleges was held at the Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2 Thursday to discuss various issues relating to the Examination System of Quid-i-Azam University.
15 Professors from different colleges of the capital city attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Professor Riasat Ali Abbasi. Professor Rozina Faheem, a representative of Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls G-10/4 said, “Excessive delay in the announcement of the result causes serious concerns to students whose future planning surely depends on their results.” In the previous cases of exams and the results announced too many discrepancies have been observed the fact, which shakes the trust of the students and teachers. Such practice causes frustration to the students.   
Moreover, colleges should have the right to make the subject- combinations instead of university. Professor Khalida Makhdum, Vice Principal Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls F-7/2 said, “Paper setting and marking is very much significant segment of the academic process.
The university should ask the teachers concerned to set the papers for their respective subjects because conducting and setting papers demands good experience and true understanding of the curriculum. Internal paper setters must be from ICT colleges and external paper setters from QAU.”
Professor Samina Zahid representing Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/4 said that in the subject of Applied Psychology two different types of syllabi were in practice in colleges last year due to lack of communication, which caused a great disturbance among students in the final examination.
Professor Abdul Munim Zahid from Islamabad College for Boys emphasised that the university should maintain a proper data base regarding the examiners and paper setters which should be updated every year by getting the latest bio-data of teachers from colleges on the pattern of Federal Board. Dr Muhammad Irfan Ali representing the host college suggested that the BS Mathematics should be in semester system instead of annual system.
Professor Jamshed Khan Khattak representing Islamabad Model Postgraduate College of Commerce H-8/4 lamented the fact that the enrollment of his college has substantially decreased only because of late declaration of results by QAU.
Principal of ICG Professor Fouzia Mujahid suggested that students should be given the facility of passing the subjects from the marks obtained from both the papers A and B accumulatively.
Professor Tahir Mahmood from H-8 Postgraduate College said, “A uniform paper pattern should be formed. In some papers students are asked to solve five questions while in some other papers they have to attempt 10 questions which is not possible in limited time of three hours.”
Professor Riasat Ali Abbasi focused that Quid-i-Azam University should give a clear cut calendar of admissions, examinations and result declaration and then afterwards strive to function accordingly.
At the end of the meeting, Professor Riasat Ali Abbasi told that these issues will be presented in the meeting with vice Chancellor QAU scheduled to be held on March 26, 2015.
