Teachers to get unpaid salaries next week

Islamabad-Daily-wage employees of model educational institutions were yesterday assured about payment of pending salaries during a meeting with government officials; however, the teachers decided to continue boycott of classes until regularisation of their jobs.

Talking to The Nation, Director Model Schools and Education Dr Tariq Masood said that process of unpaid salaries of last 03 month has almost been resolved and employees will get payment next week. “Instead of Rs 13,000, teaching staff will be paid Rs 14,000 per month,” he said.

He also said that summary of Rs 290 million has been also sent to secretary finance to allocate the fund, which will resolve the issue for one year.

Talking to The Nation, Young Teachers Association (YTA) representative Ehsan Bangish said that Ministry of Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) has approved the salary payments and soon it would be transferred to teachers. “Previous 03 months salary issue has been resolved but we are waiting for the approval of Rs 290 million bank draft, which has been sent to AGPR for approval,” he said.

He further said, “Around 1100 teaching and non-teaching staff of model educations would be granted salaries now”.

However, Bangish said the boycott of classes in institutions will continue until the daily-wages teachers are regularized.

“Regularization is our major issue and we will continue the protest until we are given permanent status,” he said. Bangish stated that there are 12 colleges in which teaching staff will boycott the classes. But, according to the director colleges, the government is trying to rationalise the issue of regularization of daily-wage teaching and non-teaching staff. “There are only 04 to 05 colleges in which teachers are on protest, rest of institutions are carrying classes regularly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Central Academic Staff Association (CASA), that represents regular staff of model and federal government educational institutes, met ministry officials for fulfilment of their demands.

President CASA Rashid Khan talking to The Nation said, “During meeting with the CADD minister, we demanded up-gradation in service, revision of policy promotion and appointment of principals in colleges where positions are vacant.” He said that minister has asked CASA to find any possible way between demands presented and views of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). He also stated that CASA will continue their protest until reaching any logical solution.

The official of FDE stated that meetings of CASA are underway with the ministry and soon both entities will reach any positive end.
