Islamabad-The 12th convocation of Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) was held on Tuesday.

The ceremony was held at Jinnah convention Centre Islamabad wherein graduates including BBA, MBA, BS, MS and PhD in the fields of Management Sciences, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science and Bioinformatics were awarded degrees.  

Arooj Khalid Butt received ‘Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal’ for being overall best graduate of the convocation.

Minister of State for Education and Professional Training, Engineer Muhamamd Baligh ur Rehman was chief guest while Dr Sammar Mubarakmand was also present on the occasion.

The minister congratulated the students on their academic achievements and expressed his appreciation for the efforts and contribution of the university in the field of higher education.

“In the present day scenario, education does not end with acquiring a degree; it is a lifelong journey exploring new horizons, and broadening of the vision and towards new frontiers of knowledge,” Baligh said. 

He also stated, “The role of higher education becomes more prominent and wide ranging because in the present times, we do not only need just the conventional types of education.”

Higher education plays a key role in determining the position of a nation in today’s knowledge driven economy, said the minister.

He appreciated CUST for broadening the range of its programs and training.

Dr Samar Mubarakmand, on this occasion said that education plays a vital role in economic development of country.

It raises the productivity and efficiency of individuals and thus produces skilled manpower that is capable of leading the economy towards the path of sustainable economic development, he said.

Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr M Mansoor Ahmed congratulated the graduates and highlighted the contribution made by the university in the field of higher education.

He hoped that the graduates will contribute towards scientific and technological development of the country through their ability, dignity, determination and commitment.

He informed that the university has earned a prominent position amongst its competitors by putting high emphasis on R&D activity and its graduate programs.
