More powers to parent-teacher councils hailed

LAKKI MARWAT - A local civic organization has hailed the government decision to empower parent-teacher councils of public sector primary schools to execute civil works in schools.
The Tajazai Islahi committee held a meeting on Sunday with President Hafiz Salahuddin in the chair where matters pertaining to educational problems came under discussion. The meeting also discussed provision of conditional grant to the two boys primary schools of the village.
It said that the office bearers and members of committee along with parents would supervise utilization of funds to ensure transparency. Hafiz Salahuddin revealed at the meeting that the district education department had released Rs 0.8 million each to parent teacher councils of government primary schools in Matan Tajazai and Sadiqabad Tajazai localities for construction of classrooms.
He said that the utilization of conditional grant through PTCs would help to overcome problems faced by students and teachers and equip the government-run schools with basic facilities.
He called upon the members of parent-teacher councils to ensure transparency in utilization of funds. "The transparent utilization of funds will earn a good name for teachers in the society," he added.
