Finally the cops are out of all educational institutions. The remaining three colleges - Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) F-7/3, IMCB F-8/4 and IMCB G-6/2 - were also vacated by the police on Friday and these institutions will be open for academic activities from Monday.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration also informed the Federal Directorate of Education by a letter that in compliance of court’s orders all educational institutions have been vacated. The Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) apologised from the parents and students for the inconvenience that was caused to them due to the unforeseen situation and protests in the Capital.
“We are very concerned about the academic loss of the students and we would try our level best to complete the syllabus in time. We would arrange extra classes, Christmas and winter break would be reduced, and school timings would be increased to cover up the loss,” said the CADD spokesperson in a statement.
The FDE estimation committee would prepare a report for any damage/loss to the schools building and infrastructure and would submit it to the ministry of interior and district management for the compensation.
The issue started when over 400 schools and colleges could not be reopened on August 11 after summer vacations as around 59 institutions were taken over by the ICT to accommodate police in wake of sit-ins. The CADD kept on extending vacations due to occupation of institutions and security situation in the capital. But due to the mounting pressure from parents and students, it reopened all institution on September 3 except 27 where the police were inhabited.
Later, the parents and students of closed institutions also started agitation against the closure of their respective institutions when all other institutions were functioning. The Islamabad High Court was also moved that directed the ICT to vacate the educational institutions.
The IHC’s directions and show cause notice and constant pressure from education departments, parents and protesting students, after all, compelled ICT administration to move nearly 30,000 policemen staying in schools and colleges to other places gradually.
