Rs60m sought for Rawalpindi colleges security
Islamabad - Directorate of Colleges, Rawalpindi, has asked the provincial higher education department to allocate Rs 60 million to make security arrangements for 97 boys and girls colleges in the district as directed by the provincial government.
After the Peshawar tragic incident, Punjab chief minister had directed educational institutions to beef up their security through raising of boundary walls, deployment of guards and installation of electronic gadgets.
The Directorate say the amount is required for the purchase of walkthrough gates, metal detectors, construction of barriers, raising the boundary walls and placement of barbwires on them.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has approved recruitment of security guards for government schools in the province including Rawalpindi district. According to details, the guards would be appointed on contract basis initially for six months and posted at primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools. Each guard would be paid Rs 15,000 per month.
It is also learnt that CCTA cameras would also be installed at most of the major schools.
Though preference would be given to appoint security guards from amongst retired armed forces officials, but arrangements are being made for their training in order to enhance their capacity to deal with any emergency. They would be given exercise in firing, Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) and dealing with any emergency.
Meanwhile, at least 149 government and 127 private schools of Rawalpindi district are kept in “A category” due to security reasons. However, total government schools in Rawalpindi district are 1961 whereas private are 3,000 to 4,000. According to new policy, district government has made it compulsory to raise the already build walls of government school, CCTV cameras should be installed, guards should be deployed and metal detector walk through gates should also be placed on the gates.
Whereas private school principals are demanded to give NOC; which will be regarding the safety of every single student getting education in his institution. In case the security of any school is not maintained tight than action will be taken against the authorities of that school.
Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Friday extended the date for submission of admission forms pertaining to forthcoming Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual examination 2015.
According to a press release issued by the board, all the concerned may facilitate and deposit their admission forms with normal fee by 20th January and with double fee by 03rd February.
