Madressa system is a by-product of a vacuum that has been erected by our education system. Since APS carnage, we have made Madressa’s our punching bags, as we talk about reforms in Madressa system, but turn a deaf ear to our education system, which has also become a perennial source for all kinds of vices. Parents get their children enrolled in Madressas so that they can learn Arabic and can learn to recite the Quran. Had there been availability of basic free education these Madressas would not have flourished and if we had made Arabic compulsory in our education system from primary to graduation there would have been no room for Madressa’s to exist or flourish at the speed they did.
