LAHORE - Punjab University Department of Information Management (DIM) is celebrating 100 years of formal library and information education in Asia. The Department has planned a yearlong series of events for centennial commemorations in 2015.
The very first event in this regard, “Meet & Greet Former Heads” held in the department to reconnect with the past. On this occasion, former heads included Prof Mumtaz Ali Anwar, Malik Bashir Tiwana, Malik Mushtaq Ahmad and Afzal Haq Qarshi shared their memories and contributions in the growth of library and Information education at the University.
The ceremony was attended by prominent, senior professionals and a large number of students.
In the end, Chairperson DIM Dr Kanwal Ameen shared the recent developments and the upcoming commemorative events including an international conference. The ceremony concluded with presenting shields to the guest speakers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the department has changed its name from Library and Information Science to “Information Management” in 2014.
seminar:  Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organised a special lecture in connection with Pakistan Day.
Humboldt University, Germany’s Prof Dr Bettina Robotka was the key speaker while Dean Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Director PSC Prof Dr Massarrat Abid, faculty members and students from various departments also participated in the event.
Dr Bettina Robotka raised the optimistic version about future of Pakistan. She said that the country was passing through a better situation after so many challenging conditions and military operations. However, she said, the country was still facing many problems like extremism, radicalism etc while sectarianism was the most dangerous phenomenon for nation building. She stressed the need for accommodating the diversified cultural, ethnic and religious identities. She said that the founder of Pakistan had visualized the pluralistic and decentralized state but the following decades witnessed an opposite trend of centralization of power at federal level.
She was of the view that there should be autonomy at provincial level and the federal government should come forward to bring the federating units at par with each other in terms of development and prosperity.
Rgistration dates extended
Punjab University has extended the last date for submission forms and fee with fine for registration of MA/M.Sc and B.Com private examinations 2015.
According to details, candidates of MA/M.Sc Part-I can submit their registration forms Rs 4,500. Similarly, candidates of B.Com Part-I can submit their registration forms till March 30, 2015 with fee of Rs 4,250 while the registration forms can be submitted with Rs 4,500 after March 30, 2015.
