LAHORE - The students, staff and faculty members of Government College University yesterday held a ‘Solidarity Walk’ to condemn the terror attack on Bacha Khan University, Charsadda and commemorate the sacrifice of the martyred academia.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah along with the academic and administrative heads led the peaceful on-campus walk from the Postgraduate Block to Main Gate.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Shah said terrorists were scared of education and that’s why they were targeting educational institutions of the country. “But, we are not scared of them and would continue our mission of progress, prosperity and enlightenment,” he added.
However, he also said that “You can’t end terrorism without fighting extremism, so Pakistan needs an education system which has a reach to the last children of the country and can inculcate in them tolerance and harmony.”
Speaking on the occasion, GCU Physics Department Chairman Prof Dr Raiz Ahmed said that teachers were unanimous in their call for uniting against terrorists and extremists of all hues and colours. He noted that Islamic injunctions stipulate the sanctity of life and property of all human beings, and that distorting religion to target innocent people was barbaric and inhuman. He called upon the government and armed forces to utilize all resources for weeding out terrorists and obliterating terror outfits.
GCU Debating Society Advisor Siddique Awan said BKU Charsadda attack had left us to ponder over our decades old negligence of our national responsibilities, such as, providing social and economic justice to all the segments of the nation. We must provide quality education and employment opportunities to the entire population on the principle of parity. For this to materialize, we must put an end to corruption and violation of law.
Talking to media, students also condemned the barbaric attack on Bacha Khan University, saying terrorists could not deter them from their journey to enlightenment.
