BZU plans de-affiliating ‘ghost’ law colleges
MULTAN - The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) has decided to strip such law colleges of their affiliation which lack basic facilities or have poor academic infrastructure.
The decision was made by the affiliation committee of the varsity in a meeting held with the Vice Chancellor Prof Tahir Ameen here on Friday. The committee decided to issue instructions to all law colleges for lifting quality of the law education. It was also decided to carry out a review of facilities available at all affiliate law colleges and end the affiliation of all those lacking necessary facilities. The BZU administration will also inform the Pakistan Bar Council and Lahore High Court on any step like this.
It was recommended during the meeting that evening class of three-year law course may be introduced at Gillani Law College in the light of court order. Similarly, the prospects of introducing five-year course were also discussed. The participants of the meeting agreed to introduce five-year course after the review of its syllabus by the Pakistan Bar Council. It was also recommended during the meeting to prepare the syllabus for five-year annual course as soon as possible.
The meeting was attended by the chairman of the committee Dr Abdul Qudoos Sohaib, DSA Dr Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Registrar Dr Muhammad Mutahir IQbal, Deputy Director Colleges Dr Ibrar Ahmad, Principal Law College Sheikh Muhammad Saleem, Prof Qazi Abid and Mumtaz Ahmad Sheikh.
No compromise on Multan beauty
Commissioner Multan Division Capt (r) Asad Ullah Khan took serious notice of construction of two shops on a greenbelt along the metro route in Shamasabad area and issued order to stop the construction on Friday.
He directed the concerned officials to refrain from doing construction on greenbelts and in parks for increasing the revenue of departments as it distort face of the town besides creating traffic problems.
He said that historic Qila Qasim Bagh is being restored into its original form and all government departments are being shifted from there. He said that no compromise would be made on the beauty of the town and police centre would also be shifted to another place from greenbelt in Shamasabad. He directed the concerned officials to do traffic study before installing dividers between roads for traffic control. “Take the citizens and traders into confidence too before taking any step like this,” he added. He directed the metro authorities to make fountain at Northern bypass functional besides completing sitting area at Chungi No-9.
Meanwhile, metro authorities disclosed that the trail of escalators and lifts installed at 12 metro stations had been carried out and their performance was found satisfactory. They added that the lifts and escalators were run on both Mepco power supply and backup system of generators. The metro authority has installed power generators at each station to continue power supply to the stations in case of loadshedding. Similarly, the installation of sloar blue glass, logos, fans, LED lights and beautification is also underway at all metro stations. Metro authorities said that the fountain at Chungi No-9 sitting area had been made functional while the parking stand had also been completed.
