Prompt water drainage from mango orchards urged

LAHORE - Punjab Agriculture department has advised mango growers to follow the advice offered by this department to minimise impact of flooding on mango orchards. A spokesman of the department stated on Tuesday that mango growers should adopt measures to ensure drainage of rain water from mango gardens as early as possible in order to protect the trees from diseases and after effects of flood water. He said that tractor lift pump should be used for suction of water from the garden, adding that growers must collect all disease affected branches and burn or burry them. The official suggested the growers use 10 kg lime for each plant as protection against humidity and fungus.
