Govt evolves plan to export Halal meat

LAHORE  - PAMCO Chief Execuive Officer, Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh on Sunday said the government had evolved a comprehensive plan to enhance export of Halal meat to international market.
“Demand for Pakistani Halal products is growing internationally and Punjab Halal Development Cell has been set up for the purpose,” he added.
Talking to APP, he said Pakistan was rich in the best breed of livestock and according to latest figures, there are 69.60 million cows and buffaloes and 91.50 million goats and sheep in the country.
But, he said, owing to lack of determination of standards regarding Halal industry in Pakistan, local traders are not marketing their products in international markets properly which is inflicting a great loss to the national economy.
Answering a question, he said, after setting Halal standards, Pakistani products will be recognized throughout the world and huge foreign exchange could also be earned.
