Giga seminar on agriculture
LAHORE (PR): Haji Muhammad Rafiq Giga (Chairman, Giga Group) raised a very grave issue of Pakistan through a seminar on enhancement of agricultural productivity and food security. The seminar took place at Al Ghurair Giga, adjacent to World Trade Center Islamabad, which is soon to be completed in the near future.
In a seminar on Agriculture development in Pakistan presenting their credentials to Dr. Miftah Ismail (Chairman Board of Investment), Mr. Muhammad Mian Soomro (Former Prime Minister, Chairman Senate and Former acting President of Pakistan), and to Haji Muhammad Rafiq Giga and Haji Muhammad Amin Giga from Giga Group of Companies; the connoisseur, Dr. Shin Dong-Hyun (Director Institute of Agriculture Science and Technology, Kyungpook National University), Mr. Lu WEI (Director at Beijing Life Sciences Technology Development Institute), Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan (Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad) and Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmed (Vice Chancellor Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi) agreed that there was an urgent need for the agriculture sector in Pakistan to improve its performance and enable farmers to raise their yields through better agriculture techniques.

‘Al Meezan’ opens branch­
ISLAMABAD (PR): Al Meezan Investment Management Limited (Al Meezan Investments) has opened its Islamabad branch at Jinnah Avenue. The opening of this office is part of its commitment to provide Shariah compliant investment solutions and quality service to the investors at their doorstep.
Al Meezan Investments is the largest private sector asset management company in Pakistan, with the total assets under management of over Rs. 50 Billion. The company has eleven funds under its management with the latest addition of Meezan Capital Preservation Fund, launched in January 2014. Student rewarded
LAHORE (PR): Hamza Qazi, a brave student of Al-Mashriq School, Green Town was rewarded with spirit award comprising a computer and Rs10,000 by Spirit Foundation President BA Shakir and Fahad Abbas Malik at a ceremony held here the other day.
Principal Al-Mashriq School Naheed Aslam and Mehr Abdul Rauf were also present on the occasion.  It is to be noted that the brave student overpowered a drunkard who shot injured a schoolteacher and also saved lives of many school children by risking his life.  In recognition of his bravery, SICAS School System MD Fahad Abbas awarded him. Similarly, Naheed Aslam also announced a cash prize.

Whirlpool USA in Pakistan
KARACHI (PR): Whirlpool Country Head Amit Raturi visited Lahore last week and met the management of “Sazgar Engineering Works Limited” a public limited company which is quoted on all stock exchanges of Pakistan.  Whirlpool having bought the Maytag business worldwide appointed Sazgar as their distributors in Pakistan. 
During this visit Mr. Raturi announced that Whirlpool will be launching several new models in refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, cooking products, reverse osmosis and induction hot plate from Whirlpool Factories located around the globe. Specifically Designed refrigerators considering the power constraints of countries like Pakistan, will enable us to become a real success story in this segment of the market.

Haj balloting for NIT staff
KARACHI (PR): Haj balloting ceremony was held in NIT Head Office to select six NIT employees who will perform Haj this year with their spouse to make a total of 12 persons who will perform Haj on expenses of NIT. $500 will also be given to each intended Haji.  Addressing the NIT employees on this occasion, MD NIT Manzoor Ahmed said that it is a singular honour for him to perform the sacred duty of conducting this lucky draw.

Lawn Prints Volume 1
KARACHI (PR): Junaid Jamshed launched its highly awaited Bahaar Aye, Lawn Prints Volume 1. Celebrating eastern values, the new J. collection launched nationwide as part of its new ‘Soully East’ outlook. Seminar on development
LAHORE (PR): A seminar on “Economic Models for Inclusive and Sustainable Development,” was held at the Lahore School of Economics. The Rector of the Lahore School of Economics, Dr. Shahid Amjad and the Dean of the Department of Economics Dr. Azam Chaudhry hosted Mr. Philipp Kauppert, the Resident Director, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Pakistan Office, and Prof. Hansjörg Herr (author of the “Decent Capitalism), of the Berlin School of Economics and Law, from Germany. Prof. Herr discussed the recent global crisis and also discussed how financial bubbles transformed into international panic, with states struggling to rescue and bail out a globalised financial sector.
