SEOUL (AFP) - South Koreas trade surplus grew in April as exports continued to benefit from surging overseas demand, the government said Saturday. Exports jumped 31.5 percent from a year earlier to 39.876 billion dollars in April while imports were worth 35.466 billion dollars, up 42.6 percent, the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy said. The April trade surplus stood at $4.41b, up from the March trade surplus of a revised 1.8 billion dollars. Semiconductor exports in April were worth 4.19 billion dollars, up 97.9 percent from a year earlier, but exports of ships fell 10.5 percent year-on-year to 4.23 billion dollars. Exports of cars were up 61.8 percent year-on-year and exports of home appliances were up 45.8 percent.
