LAHORE (PR): Jaag Welfare Association, in collaboration with Help Age International, organised a seminar at a local hotel to mark the International Day of Senior Citizens.
Speakers at the seminar urged the Punjab Assembly members to pass a bill to provide proper facilities to older people and protect their rights.
Punjab Information and Culture Parliamentary Secretary Rana Muhammad Arshad, Kanji Ram, Shakeel Iwon, Waqas A Qureshi of Help Age International, Nabeera Andleeb, Nasreen Nawaz and others spoke on the occasion.
Rana Arshad said senior citizens were most respectable segment of the society. The Punjab government had also started working on the laws to protect older people’s rights. An ordinance titled ‘Punjab Senior Citizens Ordinance 2013’ had been drafted by Social Welfare Department in 2013 after consultations with different stakeholders, including government departments.
