ISLAMABAD - Disassociating itself from Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) extra units’ scandal, Wapda has said that issues pertaining to line losses and overbilling to consumers do not fall within the domain of Wapda.
“The issues pertaining to line losses and overbilling to the consumers do not fall within the domain of Wapda,” Wapda spokesperson has clarified.
Apropos a news item titled “Pesco charging consumers 100pc extra units” published on Monday in The Nation wherein the issues of line losses and overcharging by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) have been attributed to Wapda.
The spokesperson further clarified that subsequent to bifurcation of its Power Wing in 2007 in the backdrop of power sector reforms, Wapda only deals with construction of dams and hydropower projects and operation and maintenance of the existing hydel power stations.
Except hydel generation in public sector, all other matters of electricity now relate to various public sector companies such as power generation companies (Gencos), National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), and Distribution Companies (Discos). These power sector companies including Pesco have been functioning independent of Wapda, the spokesperson concluded.
