Japan provides Rs10.2m for provision of ambulances to Jam-e-Shafa Organisation
KARACHI (PR): The government of Japan has extended a grant of $102,008 (approximately Rs10.2 million) to Jam-e-Shafa Organization for “The project for the provision of ambulances to Jam-e-Shafa Organization” under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
The grant contract was signed at the Japan Information and Culture Center of the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi, between Akira Ouchi, Consul General of Japan in Karachi and Lt General (r) Muhammad Ishaq, Chief Executive Officer of Jam-e-Shafa Organization. Parvez Ghias, Chief Executive Officer of Indus Motors Company Limited, was also present at the occasion.
The grant covers the cost of two ambulances fully equipped with basic life-support equipment to achieve the objective of providing efficient access to emergency services to save the lives of people in Quetta. In addition to the grant of about 10.2 million rupees, 1.4 million rupees are contributed by Indus Motors Company Limited. This project is the second case of public-private partnership between the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi and Indus Motors Company Limited.
The Government of Japan provided an ambulance and medical equipment to Jam-e-Shafa Organization in 2003 and this project is to provide two new ambulances to replace the old ones.
This project was realized as a result of Ouchi’s meeting with Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Chief Minister of Balochistan in April 2014 when he promised to consider Japan’s assistance to Balochistan through GGP in the future.
At the signing ceremony, Ouchi hoped that the implementation of this project would improve emergency medical services and help save the lives of more people in Quetta. Ouchi also wished that this support from the people of Japan would further strengthen friendly relationship between Japan and Pakistan
Under the GGP scheme, Japan has funded more than 300 projects in Pakistan since 1989, and this is the 12th GGP project and the first one in Quetta to be implemented by the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi since 2009.

Lucky Cement conducts cleaning of coral reefs
KARACHI (PR): Lucky Cement conducted its second annual campaign – a global movement by Project Aware of Australia. Lucky Cement sponsored scuba divers associated with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) to clean the ocean bed at Charna Island, a soft coral reef off Karachi Coast.
Furthermore, the scuba divers and Lucky Cement team identified and documented details about the underwater contamination in a larger effort to reduce marine debris, and side by side raise awareness among the masses to preserve the marine eco-system.
Marine debris is a major contamination problem affecting all waterways and is amongst the most widespread but preventable problems plaguing oceans and damaging the marine life. In a recent study, conducted by University of Plymouth- UK, more than 250,000 tons of plastic litter the ocean’s surface. The team’s results are a big step forward in understanding where some of the world’s plastic ends up.
Lucky Cement Limited has been actively pursuing a number of environmental and social causes in Pakistan including child and maternal health programs, educational scholarships and President’s Forestation Program.

Honda hits highest-ever monthly sales

LACAS reaches Faisalabad
FAISLABAD (PR): At a ceremony held at a local hotel, LACAS School Network opened it doors to the students of Faisalabad. LACAS in Faisalabad comes as a breath of fresh air for parents in Faisalabad who strongly feel the dearth of good schooling systems in Faisalabad.

‘Condolence day’ observed
LAHORE (PR): Electricity and Wapda workers observed countrywide ‘condolence day’ on Tuesday on the eve of brutal killing of Muhammad Ayoub, worker of Quetta Electric Power Company at Gawader Baloochistan, by holding special meetings and protest under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union. Earlier, two other QESCO workers had been killed by the terrorists in Balochistan.
At Lahore, special meeting was held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall, which was addressed by the trade union representatives including veteran trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of the union.
The participants demanded to ensure safety to the workers and bring the accused to book.

DIBPL, PSMC join hands
KARACHI (PR): Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan (DIBPL) and Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC), the largest automobile manufacturer of Pakistan, have successfully entered into strategic business alliance. DIBPL and PSMC have formally joined hands to extend PSMC cars & financing product to an ever growing base of applicants interested in easy and Shari’a compliant financing. Beaconhouse honoured
LAHORE (PR): Beaconhouse has announced that three of its students have been declared the winners of the Intel Pakistan National Science Fair held in Islamabad in January 2015. They beat over 12,000 participants from all across Pakistan to secure a place in the final event of the Intel International Science Fair to be held in Pittsburgh, PA, USA in May 2015.
Two teams comprising three Class XI-C students and a mentor each represented Beaconhouse Valencia Town Campus.
